The Beehive will soon be holding their second installament in their continuing Art Series, Sting! 2: An Evening of Art, Music and Performance.
On July 29th, from 7:00pm-10:00pm, The Beehive's co-owner and resident curator Jennifer Epstein and artist and co-curator Jeff Perrott will host Sting! 2.
The Beehive will be showcasing some major performance art talent including the likes of Sarah Slifer, a dance/performance artist and recent recipient of the St. Botolph Award and a special performance art piece by Jessica Gath, "cigarette girl" whose wares channel the likes of Sarah Bernhardt, Edith Piaf and P.T. Barnum. The evening will also feature the eclectic dub reggae sounds of the Island Allstars, the luminous and free-flowing horns of Phil Grenadier with Jerry Bergonzi, and of course the living and stationary exhibits will be in conjunction with the Beehives regular and always delicious dinner service.
Other featured artists for the evening will include: Sean Downey (exhibited at The Rose Art Museum and taught at both Brandeis and Boston University), Matthew Cleary (a SMFA Traveling Scholar Award recipient who has shown at G.A.S.P. Gallery, Brookline and will be in an upcoming show at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston), James Hull (curator and founder of the former Gallery at Green Street), Evelyn Rydz (A 2008 Institute of Contemporary Art's James and Audrey Foster Prize nominee who has recently exhibited at The Danforth Museum of Art, G.A.S.P. Gallery, Gallery Diet, Miami, and The Rhys Gallery, Boston), Laurel Sparks (who has recently exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the DeCordova Museum and the Howard Yezerski Gallery, as well as received painting awards such as the Berkshire Taconic Artist Grant (07), SMFA Alumni Traveling Scholarship (05), Massachusetts Cultural Council Grant (04), and an Elaine de Kooning Fellowship (03), Deb Todd Wheeler (recently nominated for the 2008 Joan Mitchell Foundation grant and also has been the recipient of numerous awards, including an individual artist grant from the Artist Resource Trust, a LEF Contemporary Work Fund Artist grant in Inter-media, and a Massachusetts Cultural Council Grant in Sculpture and Installation), Brady Bonus, Leslie Wilcox (recent work shown in exhibitions at the Barbara Krakow Gallery, Boston and Boston Sculptors at Chapel Gallery, Newton and has work included in major collections such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Brandeis and Harvard Universities), Carrie Moyer (courtesy of Center Street Studios, Moyer's work was most recently exhibited at CANADA Gallery, NY, Sampson Projects and P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, NY), Bill Thompson (also courtesy of Center Street Studios, Thompson had recent shows at Barbara Krakow Gallery and is part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Rose Art Museum, the DeCordova Museum among others), Resa Blatman (a teacher at Massachusetts College of Art with recent exhibitions at Wheelock College, the Danforth Museum and MPG Contemporary. There will also be video installations by Jane D. Marsching (a finalist for the 2007 Institute of Contemporary Art's James and Audrey Foster Prize) and Jason Schiedel (who exhibited recently at Allston Skirt Gallery).
There is no cover charge and there will be a cash bar.
